E-Bike Prices and Tariffs in 2026: What Riders Pay, and Why
What e-bikes, e-scooters and electric dirt bikes cost in 2026 by type, how discounts pushed European prices down, and how US tariffs and shifting production are changing where e-bikes come from.
E-bike prices in 2026 are being pulled in two directions. In Europe, the discounting that cleared the post-pandemic stock has brought average prices down for two years running. In the United States, tariffs on bikes made in China have changed several times in two years, and brands have answered by moving production elsewhere. This analysis combines the prices of every model in our database with the latest industry data and trade rules.
In brief
- Half of the e-bike ranges sold in the US cost between $1,299 and $3,499; the median is $1,999.
- Folding e-bikes are the most affordable type (median $922), electric mountain bikes the most expensive (median $6,000).
- In Germany, discounts cut the average e-bike price to €2,550 in 2025, €400 below its 2023 peak, while specialist shops held a much higher average.
- Chinese e-bikes have paid a 25% Section 301 duty in the US since June 2024. Emergency tariffs came and went; new 10% and 12.5% duties on 60 trading partners apply from July 2026.
- The EU extended its anti-dumping and countervailing duties on Chinese e-bikes for five years in January 2025.

Europe: two years of discounts
In Germany, the average price of an e-bike, across all sales channels, rose to €2,950 in 2023 and has fallen since: €2,650 in 2024 and €2,550 in 2025. ZIV attributes the 2025 fall mainly to discounts, which pushed prices down in almost every category [1]. Specialist bike shops tell a different story: their average e-bike sold for €3,972 in 2025, up from €3,531 in 2024, helped by company bike leasing, which made up 41.9% of their sales [1].
| Year | Average e-bike price in Germany |
|---|---|
| 2021 | €2,650 |
| 2022 | €2,800 |
| 2023 | €2,950 |
| 2024 | €2,650 |
| 2025 | €2,550 |

US tariffs: two years of change
Most e-bikes sold in the US are imported, so trade rules feed straight into prices. For e-bikes made in China:
| Date | What changed |
|---|---|
| 14 June 2024 | The exclusion that had kept Chinese e-bikes free of the 2018–19 Section 301 tariffs expired. They have paid an extra 25% duty since [2]. |
| 2025 | Tariffs under emergency powers (IEEPA) were added on Chinese goods: 10–20% tied to fentanyl, and “reciprocal” tariffs that reached 145% at their peak [3]. |
| 20 February 2026 | The Supreme Court ruled that IEEPA does not authorise tariffs, striking those down. A temporary 10% global surcharge under Section 122 of the Trade Act followed, limited to 150 days [3]. |
| 24 July 2026 | The Section 122 surcharge expired. New Section 301 duties of 10% or 12.5% on substantially all products of 60 trading partners took effect the same day [4]. |
| 27 September 2026 | A US–China list of products recommended for tariff relief left out bicycles, e-bikes and bicycle parts [5]. |
The 25% Section 301 duty on Chinese e-bikes has been the constant through all of this. Batteries, chargers and other parts carry their own tariff treatment, and further Section 301 actions remain possible, so importers should check the current rate for each product and origin before quoting a landed cost.
EU duties on Chinese e-bikes
The EU has protected its e-bike industry since 2019. In January 2025 the European Commission extended its anti-dumping duties of 10.3% to 70.1% and countervailing duties of 3.9% to 17.2% on e-bikes from China for another five years, after a review found continued dumping and subsidies [6].
Where e-bikes come from now
Tariffs have moved factories. China supplied 80% of the adult bicycles imported into the US in 2019 and 38% in 2025; Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia and Vietnam took much of the business [7]. Europe shows the same shift on a smaller scale: Asia's share of e-bikes imported into Germany rose to 25.1% in 2025, with Vietnam supplying 12% and Taiwan's share doubling to 8% [1].
Some brands are moving production closer to the customer instead. Rad Power Bikes, the Seattle direct-to-consumer brand, went through Chapter 11 and was bought by Life Electric Vehicles for $13.3 million on 5 March 2026; the new owner plans to build Rad bikes at its facility in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, using a Foreign Trade Zone [8].
What it means
- For buyers: in Europe, discounting has made 2025 and 2026 good years to buy; in the US, compare a model's price across its markets on its product page, and look at where it is made.
- For brands and importers: country of origin now matters as much as the factory price. A range made outside China can land in the US at a materially lower duty than the same bike from China.
- For retailers: in Germany the gap between the market average and specialist shops widened in 2025; leasing and service keep the specialist average high.
Current prices for every model, in every market where it is sold, are on each product page: browse electric bikes, electric scooters and electric dirt bikes.
