Segway Ninebot Max G2 vs NIU KQi3 Max: the long-range commuter scooters compared
Segway Ninebot Max G2 vs NIU KQi3 Max: $699.99 against $999, 22 mph against 20 mph, 43 against 40 miles of range, suspension, tires and load, from each brand's US store.
The Segway Ninebot Max G2 and the NIU KQi3 Max are built for the same rider: someone who scoots to work and back every day and wants a battery that lasts the week without anxiety. Both fold, both carry an adult, and both promise around 40 miles on a charge. Where they differ is suspension, power and price.
The short answer
At $699.99 on Segway's US store against $999 on NIU's, the Max G2 states more of almost everything: 22 mph against 20 mph, 43 miles of theoretical range against 40.4, 1,000 W of maximum power, hydraulic and spring suspension and traction control. The KQi3 Max answers with a wider deck, self-healing tyres and a stated load of 265 lb. For most commuters the Max G2 is the stronger buy on paper; riders who value deck space and puncture resistance have reasons to pay more.

Figures as each brand states them on its own store or product page. Segway Max G2 · NIU KQi3 Max: full specifications, every market's price and where to buy.
Range and speed
Segway states a theoretical range of 43 miles for the Max G2 and a top speed of 22 mph. NIU states up to 40.4 miles for the KQi3 Max and a top speed of 20 mph. Stated ranges are best-case figures: a heavier rider, hills, cold weather and full speed all shorten them. Many cities cap e-scooters at 15 to 20 mph, which narrows the speed difference in daily use.
Ride comfort and grip
Segway fits the Max G2 with hydraulic and spring suspension and a traction control system it calls TCS, which cuts wheel spin on wet or loose surfaces, and states that it climbs a 22% slope. Its 1,000 W of maximum power is the higher figure here; NIU does not state the KQi3 Max's motor power on its US store page. On broken city streets the Max G2's suspension is the biggest practical difference between the two.
Deck, tyres and load
NIU gives the KQi3 Max what it calls a 13% wider deck, 6.7 by 23.6 inches, and 9.5-inch self-healing pneumatic tyres that seal small punctures. It states a maximum payload of 265 lb and an IP54 rating against splashes.
Which to choose
- Choose the Segway Max G2 for the lower price, suspension, traction control and the higher stated speed, power and range.
- Choose the NIU KQi3 Max if a roomy deck, self-healing tyres and a 265 lb load rating matter more to you than suspension.
Check your city's rules before you buy: New York City, for one, requires e-scooters sold there to be certified to UL 2272, and neither brand states that standard on these two models' US store pages.
Questions
Which has more range, the Segway Max G2 or the NIU KQi3 Max?
Segway states 43 miles (a theoretical figure) for the Max G2; NIU states up to 40.4 miles for the KQi3 Max. Both are best-case figures; a heavier rider, hills, cold weather and full speed all shorten them.
Is the Segway Max G2 faster than the NIU KQi3 Max?
Yes, slightly: Segway states a top speed of 22 mph, NIU 20 mph. Local speed limits for e-scooters, often 15 to 20 mph, matter more than the difference.
